At 8:15 this morning, the phone rang -- "Is there a goose-neck trailer in front of your house?" "uh - nope you are at the wrong end of the crick - go back to the highway and stay on it until after milepost 16 then turn left and we're the first house on the right".
About 8:45 two trucks pulled in - the packers were here to pack up all our junk. They came in and JW started showing them through the house - what is going what is staying blah blah blah. They came downstairs to where I was working and the lady packer said, "the audio equipment needs to be all disconnected so we can pack it." "Can't we wait and pack that tomorrow so that we can use it tonight?" "Well, there are 5 of us here today and only 2 here tomorrow so we are going to pack everything we can today."
They spent the next 30 minutes carrying in boxes - i think they brought in about a million. Then they separated and started filling boxes. JW confirmed with them that we didn't have to be out of the house until tomorrow evening - but, where do you think Lady Packer started? In the bedroom where there were at least 8 boxes of books? Nope. In the family room where I have about 20 boxes of Christmas decorations that need packed? Nope In the dining room where there is about 10 boxes of knick knacks, dishes, cast iron cookware, bake ware etc? Heavens no.
She headed right into the kitchen and started packing up all the utensils, cookware, dishes, spices, food from the cupboard - including an unopened bag of tostitos - which I am sure will be absolutely delicious in 4-6 weeks. Not sure what this person was thinking.
They emptied the upstairs bedroom and unplugged the phone in that room - which ordinarily might be fine but it was the base phone for 3 other cordless phones in the house which means all of them quit working. Fortunately, I was able to retrieve that phone and get it plugged back in before they had it boxed up.
One guy spent most of the day just packing the stuff in the pantry and that is after I had already given almost all the food away and packed most of the dry foods. After he got through most of the pantry and started packing some of my books, he came in and said "Are you a Mormon?" I said, "Why yes I am." Then he wanted to know where all my dried food was because he had packed Mormon's before and they always have tons of dried food that have to be packed up.
They packed until 5:00 this evening. Got all JW's shop packed up and almost everything else except for a whole lot of pictures and the audio equipment.
Tomorrow, they'll be back at 8:30 to finish packing which means that we will be getting up early to make sure we have everything hidden away that we want to take with us this weekend - otherwise, they will have it in a box and taped up before we know what happened.
