Warning - the following pictures may hurt your eyes!!!

Yesterday we went out with the realtor to look at a house that we thought might be good - but we found it had a very strange layout.  You walk in the entry way and to your right through a large arch was a formal dining room with a big bay window.  To the left through an identical arch was a rather smallish living room (I suppose that's what it was).  The kitchen had a laminate countertops - the garage was small, the bedrrooms weren't too exceptional and to top it off for the price of the house, they had the shower head over a big jetted tub that was kind of at an angle - el yucko scratch that one off the list.

This afternoon, the realtor insisted on showing me a house that was built by one of the best contractors up here.  A large 2900 sq ft house with an 800 sq ft garage.  I had seen the pictures of some of the rooms on the internet and so was prepared for the bright colors.

Entry way - the yellow just isn't showing up as bright as it actuallly was which was more like a little lighter yellow than a lemon.

Formal living room - or the realtor thought maybe this room was supposed to be the formal dining room - it is just through the arch to the left of the entry way - can you just imagine this old country hick in this type of place - no way no how.

Through the small arch from the previous room is this room.  Which probably works very well for the current owners but JW likes the tv square with his chair so it is right exactly in front of him - not a slight turn of the head to either the left or the right.  So since this is the room the tv would be in - a focal point of the fireplace would just not be ideal for him.  It again is the bright yellow.

Kitchen and the dining area.  For some reason they did not even bring power to  the large island in the middle of the kitchen.    They really like that yellow.

This is the half bath around the corner from the enttry way - yep - those are orange walls so we have red to yellow to orange. 

This is what they are using for an office - it  is actually a bedroom with two nice big closets on one side.  The view is great and it's possible that on a clear day you can see Denali if you look way to the right.

By the time we left the house, I had actually decided I liked the yellow, red and orange - at least with their furnishings and decor.  It fit and it was bright and cheerful on a gloomy day.  However, the layout just didn't work for me and my country rustic furniture would just not work in that house. 

Plus while the front of the house had a southern exposure and a gorgeous view - the house backed up to a cliff.  about 8' from the back of the house was a terraced cliff - it gave me the impression of living on the side of an open pit mine with giant dirt stair steps going up a 15' or higher cliff.  No way would poor Tinkerbell be able to head out the back door and go hunting in the trees beyond the house.

Definitely not the house for these country bumpkins - where is the rugged log home that people should be living in in Alaska - what's up with all these fancy shmancy houses - we'll keep looking.  Tomorrow night, I get to go look at a house we had thought had sold - the gray one mentioned a long time ago in my blog - the one with the big school bus behind it.  Maybe it will be the right one.
