Yesterday evening we took a walk through the woods for the bird sanctuary and around the lake. It was a hot 66 - I keep hearing of snow all around the lower 48, Alexshuman was cold the other day, Johnny O says it's snowing in Nome but here it is just hot. We did get a little rain tonight which was nice and which I'm sure will encourage the mosquitos to reproduce even more quickly.
The trees are black spruce they grow slow and in many areas are stunted due to the perma frost.
Wander Lake is still frozen on top - but water thaws from the bottom so the ice is thin.
And yes, there are aliens - they are all dormant now so will have to come back in a few months when things are blooming. Hopefully there will be lots of baby birds around by then.
This afternoon, I took a drive out to the house to see how far it really is from "down town" - 8 miles. The house is over on that hill. It looks a little brown now but the birch trees are starting to bud out so will be green by the end of May.
The house is about halfway between the huge house on the top and the house in the middle above the spruce. A few too many houses for me but the trees will help block.
Goldpointe Drive - not a very long road and we are on the upper side - but you can see how well the trees even in winter - block the houses from the neighbors.
Stopped by Creamer's field on the way back home. Lots of birds - Sunday is the big Migration Celebration and as many people as just stop here to look at the birds or walk around the fields, I'm sure the place will be packed. Might be a nice place to take a walk to on Sunday afternoon.
