July 15, 2011 - Day 7 of Vacation - Wasilla on home

Friday morning July 15, JW got up and went for a run.  The girls had slept with us so when they woke up, I took them down to the free breakfast at the Best Western.  It was pretty despicable.  JW tried the sausage and biscuits and they weren't even warm.

The older two girls played outside a bit and looked around.

One float plane took off from the lake.

JM & MS by one of the birch trees.

When we headed up the Parks Highway, Denali was out in it's full glory and the sky was blue - it looked like a good day to see the mountain.

Unfortunately, by the time we had arrived at the first view point, the clouds had moved in and we couldn't see much except a few other peaks in the Alaskan Range.  Denali (Mt. McKinley) was hiding behind the clouds.

Not sure how we didn't get pictures of anyone at the view point, but Aunt Valerie did take a picture of MS favorite stuffed animal - the one she takes everywhere.  Mel Kitty.

We got to McKinley Village around lunch time so we stopped at the Alaskan Salmon Bake there and had lunch.  My sandwich was definitely enough for 2 people.

After lunch, we drove into the park as far as we are allowed to go in without a permit which is about 17 miles.  Denali was still hiding behind the clouds so the only thing we saw was a lone caribou down near the river..

We then drove on to turn around and headed back out of the park.

When we arrived back at McKinley village, we stopped to walk through the stores and see if there was anything we couldn't live without.  I didn't find a single thing I had to have.  Then we bought ice cream because the ice cream store had sorbet that MS could eat and even in her favorite flavor - mango.

We then drove on home to Fairbanks.  We were all tired but not very hungry so I left the rest of the family there to find something to eat while I went to Fred Meyers to restock the fridge.  It was good to know that the next day we wouldn't have to get up and go anywhere.

ST watching a video while laying on the little trampoline.
