A New Toy

Since we had to sell the horses, JW has been thinking he needs a new toy so we can get around.  When we went to the outdoor show in early May, he talked to the Polaris dealer and decided this side by side is what he wanted.  All he was waiting for is to get settled a bit so he'd have a place to put it.

Last weekend, he went to the local dealer who said he has a couple coming in but they had already been claimed.  He called down to Delta Junction to talk to the dealer we had met at the outdoor show and he had one - he made a deposit on it and requested the install a winch.  Then he drove almost to North Pole and bought a trailer: - since I had seen the price of them at the outdoor show, I was rather surprised at what he said a trailer was going to cost  - about a thousand more than I expected.  It turns out the reason it was going to cost more was because he had decided he needed to get a dual purpose trailer since he's hoping he can also get a snow machine for the winter.

 
The cool thing is that the trailer tips so we don't have to have a separate loading ramp to lug around.

Yesterday morning, we got up, ate breakfast and did a few things around the house and headed out to pick up the trailer and atv.  It was raining - pretty good rain at that and it rained the full 98 miles down to Delta Junction.

We picked up the trailer and they went over every inch of it with JW which took about 45 minutes.  I listened a bit then went to talk to the manager of the store about getting a plow (since we want to use it to keep the snow plowed around here - multi-purpose machine).    When we left the store, it was still raining and kind of cold so we decided we wanted a warm lunch instead of just grabbing a bag of jerky at the c-store.

We found a little place called Delta Diner.  Lots of cars parked around it but when we went inside, there was only one other table occupied.  We ordered halibut and fries then waited at least 30 minutes for our food.  Turns out they had just opened the place.  The food was pretty bad - waffle fries tasted like they had been put into a deep fryer that hadn't been warmed to the right temperature.  Really icky.

Another 98 miles of rain back home - except I told JW I wanted to stop at the Knotty Place to see what they had for sale.  Typical tourist trap junk except for some antler carved pieces of art.  They were a bit pricey for what I wanted to spend any money on - basically just want to find one piece of art from up here that I really like.

We did see a moose in a little pond beside the highway but no place to turn around with a trailer and no place to stop so no picture  :-(  He was a young bull - not a very big rack but it would have been nice to get a picture.

We got home and parked the atv in the shop.  Hoping that maybe the rain would stop so we could take a ride.  No luck.  It rained most of the night plus a pretty steady rain until this afternoon.  No riding this weekend at all.  We'll keep our fingers crossed that the sun comes out by Friday so we can plan a day ride for Saturday.

On the upside, we did spend an hour and a half working in the garage and we got it cleared out enough that we are actually able to park in the garage now.  I think now that everything that is in the garage actually belongs there- we just need to get it rearranged a little better now and there is some stuff that needs to just go to the recycle end of the transfer station.
